26th November 2019

Today’s course was held at Kings Mill Special School in Driffield, East Yorkshire. This was a full course with six participants attending who have all previously attended and passed the five day Handling People with Special Needs Education train the trainer masterclass course with Centaur.

The day was spent refreshing the Key Trainers knowledge in both the theory and the practical behind safe moving and handling of children and young adults along with other specific areas requested by the Key Trainers including personal evacuation plans, new ideas when delivering training and new practical techniques.

The trainer Maureen was very grateful to the host school for their organisation and for arranging lunch and refreshments for the day.

Train the Trainer Masterclass Course

18th – 22nd November 2019

Ysgol Hen Felin 18-22 Nov 19

This week we also had a five day Handling People with Special Needs Education train the trainer masterclass course running at Ysgol Hen Felin in Rhondda. We had three participants attending the full five day course, Craig Miles and Sam Brown both from Ysgol Hen Felin and they were joined by Angharad Bevan from Inclusion services at Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council.

We also had two Key Trainers join the course on Wednesday 20th November, just for one day, to complete a refresher workshop, Robert Hemming from Ysgol Hen Felin and Susan Evans from Coleg Gwent.

21st November 2019

Today, Maureen traveled across to Castlewood School in Coventry to deliver a one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher evaluation workshop. We had five Key Trainers on this course, Rhonda Barnes and Louise Dewis, both from Castlewood School. They were joined by Alyson Bentham and Jo Smith both from Sherbourne Fields School which is also in Coventry and Shriti Thompson from RNIB Sunshine House School in Middlesex.

It was a great day with a number of areas covered at the request of the participants including what to cover during the training course and managing time constraints, best practice for the handling of small children and problem solving.

Dundee City Council

The final course this week was a five day Handling People with Special Needs Education Masterclass Course, running from 11th – 15th November. This course is used to train staff to become trainers for their own organisation so that they can then train staff in-house. It was a great week with four participants attending from various school across Dundee, Wendy Fairweather, Patricia Clancy, Susan White and Samantha Mearns. The Centaur trainer, Maureen passed on thanks for the staff at the host venue, Kingspark School for their excellent organisation and for making her feel so welcome.

Falkirk Council

The second course this week was a one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher evaluation workshop for Falkirk Council on the 12th November 2019. Centaur have trained staff from a number of the schools and children’s services throughout the council and the time had come for these four Key Trainers, Tinamarie Abel, Norma Broadley, Isobel Kirkwood and Ashley Campbell to attend a face to face practical refresher course.

The Vale School

The Vale School Refresher Course

The first course this week was on the 11th November and was held at The Vale School in Tottenham, London. This course was a one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher evaluation workshop and we had a full course with six Key Trainers attending. Four of the Key Trainers were staff from The Vale School, Deanne Bailey, Stacey Ann Kimber, Gillian Martin and Dorota Witkowska, they were joined by Tina Green and Stephen Powell both from nearby Little Heath School.

Hounslow London Borough Council

The third and final course this week was a one day Load Management Theory and Client Handling Techniques refresher evaluation workshop held on 7th November 2019. The Key Trainers at London Borough of Hounslow council choose to attend a one day yearly refresher workshop rather than complete six monthly paper based assessments. It was a great day with the group mixing well as they are all from different workplace environments and through lots of discussion did some great problem solving.

North Lanarkshire Council Refresher Workshop

5th November 2019

This weeks second course was a one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher evaluation workshop for staff who have previously attended the five day masterclass train the trainer course with Centaur. We had a full group of seven Key Trainers attending all from schools within North Lanarkshire Council, Sheena Delaney from Redburn School, Isobel Boyle, Lorna Robertson and Elizabeth Reid all from Mavisbank School, Mhairi Sadiq from Victoria Primary School, Helen Delaney from Redburn School and Brian Gilmour from Firpark Secondary School.

It was a busy day spent covering many areas including refreshing the participants knowledge and understanding on the theory behind safe manual handling and risk assessments. All seven Key Trainers worked hard throughout the day and demonstrated a high level of knowledge and skills and all passed the one day refresher course with a merit.

Arbour Vale School 4th – 8th November 2019

This weeks first course was a full five day Handling People with Special Needs Education train the trainer masterclass course held at Arbour Vale School in Slough. Although there were only three participants for this course it was a very busy and productive week with all three attendees working hard and achieving a pass with merit at the end of  the week. Well Done.
