East Dunbartonshire Council

Janet was back at Kirkintilloch School in East Dunbarton this week to deliver two one day basic manual handling courses for staff based within schools throughout East Dunbartonshire Council. Day one, 21st August 2019, we had nine staff from five different schools attending. The day was spent covering the basic theory knowledge along with the basics of manual handling techniques and how to carry these out safely, along with looking at specific techniques which the staff may need to use with pupils within their schools.

Day two, 22nd August 2019, there were five members of staff in attendance, again from a number of schools within the area. This group were again taught the basic theory knowledge needed for them to carry out safe moving and handling of their pupils, along with techniques which they may require.

Clyde Healthcare

19th – 21st August 2019 – Centaur trainer Jan spent three days at Clyde Healthcare’s head office in Hillington Park, Glasgow to train three new Key Trainers on the Load Management Theory & Client Handling Techniques Train the Trainer Masterclass course. These three staff are part of the home care team and will now go on to deliver manual handling training to the other staff within the home care department of Clyde Healthcare. Attending the course we had Adele Wright, Jordan Gunn and Sophie Smith and I am pleased to say that all three worked really hard throughout the three days and all successfully passed the course.

I think Jan was an amazing trainer and I would enjoy taking another course with her in the future” – Sophie Smith, Care Coordinator, Clyde Homecare.

Today’s Janet was at Kirkintilloch High School in Glasgow to deliver a one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher evaluation workshop to staff from various schools in the surrounding area. This course was aimed at staff who work with children and young adults with physical special needs and have previously attended a full five day course with Centaur. However on this occasion we were asked by one of our longstanding clients, Falkirk Council, if we would allow one of their staff to attend the course as a refresher even though they have not been previously trained by Centaur. On this occasion we accepted the person onto the course and they were given a certificate of attendance and are now interested in attending the full five day course in the future.

The four participants for the day were, Laura Elliott from Moray Council, Susan McLaren from Dundee City Council , Diana Wason from Campsie View School in East Dunbartonshire and Joy McDonald from Falkirk Council.
