Handling People with Special Needs Train the Trainer Course

From the 19th – 23rd February 2018 Janet Hunt was at Greenmead School in London to train seven new Key Trainers on the Handling People with Special Needs Education Masterclass Course. It was a busy course with the seven participants coming from a mix of environments, however Janet said that they were a very good group who were eager to gain new knowledge and skills and that the group worked really hard through the week resulting in them all passing the course, two of them passed with merit.

Attending the course we had Denise Hunt and Tamarah Fevrier both from Greenmead School, they were joined by Andrew Robinson from Norfolk County Council, Kostas Poulos from Independence Homes, Serena Anderson from The Livity School and finally Viktorija Sakavickaite and Elizabeth Holland both from Brookfield House School.

Cartrefi Cymru

On the 21st February 2018 Jan traveled across to North Wales to spend the day at Cartrefi Cymru. They had three Key Trainers who required a one day face to face practical Handling People with Special Needs refresher. It was a busy day during which they covered problem solving, practical techniques and theory knowledge.

Midlothian Council Refresher Course


This week Janet spent the day at Saltersgate School in Dalkeith, Midlothian to deliver a one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher course. Attending the course we had Mandie Bowman, Trish MacMillan and Sarah Brown all from Midlothian Council, they were joined by Christine Boulton from Moray NHS Trust and Vicki Macaulay and Nicola McCormack both from Falkirk Council Children’s Occupational Therapy Team.

Sherbourne Fields School 15th February 2018

This weeks course was a one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher evaluation workshop and was held at Sherbourne Fields School in Coventry on the 15th February 2018.  Attending the course we had the two Key Trainers from the host school Jo Smith and Alyson Bentham, they were joined by two staff from South Warwickshire Foundation Trust, Elaine Smith and Michaela Carvell. Maureen commented that this was ” a very friendly group who worked well together“.

The PACE Centre

Janet Hunt spent the week from the 5th – 9th February at The PACE Centre in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. The first four days were spent training three new Handling People with Special Needs Key Trainers for the centre and the final day was a one day Handling People with Special Needs refresher evaluation workshop for two existing Key Trainers.

The four day course was very active with lots of discussions and practical work and all three participants ended the course achieving a pass. Attending we had Sarah Hyde, Sonia Pike and Shleena Lee and they will be all be a great addition to the Key Trainer team at The Pace Centre.  The refresher course was attended by Szilvia Kopor and Helen Brind who both passed the day with merit, well done!

Hounslow London Borough Council

From the 5th – 7th February 2018 Jan was at The Heart of Hounslow building in Hounslow, London to train four new Load Management Theory & Client Handling Techniques Key Trainers. It was a great three days with a nice mix of knowledge which was shared between the group, two from a occupational therapist background and two from a training background which lead to some great discussions and problem solving.
