Refresher Evaluation Workshop

On the 29th November 2017 Jan spent the day at Levick Court in Middlesbrough to deliver a one day Load Management Theory & Client Handling Techniques refresher course to local Key Trainers. Attending the course was Patrick Hughes from Age UK North Tyneside and he was joined by Stephen Walsh from Middlesbrough Borough Council. It was a full day spent looking at and refresher knowledge on many areas including practical skills, safe hoist and sling principles, equipment and training delivery.

This weeks course was a one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher evaluation workshop and it was held at The Meadows School and College in Sandwell. The four participants all came from different organisations so it made an interesting course with lots of information and advice shared, which in turn made it a positive and very focused day. Attending the course was Annisha Rukar from St Michael’s C of E High School in Sandwell, Caroline Potts from The Meadows Sports College also in Sandwell, Haley Court from Staffordshire County Council and Louise Dewis from Castlewood School in Coventry.

Aberdeenshire Council Masterclass Course

Jan spent three day at Aberdeenshire Council from the 20th – 22nd November 2017. There were only two participants for this course, Carla Farquhar and Diane Watson but it was a busy three days with both participants ending the course achieving a pass. Jan commented that she found Diane and Carla both enthusiastic and keen to learn and this showed with their excellent practice and knowledge.

Derby City Council Refresher Course

Janet spent a very busy day with four Key Trainers from Derby City Council on the 21st November 2017. Each of the Key Trainers has areas which they wanted to cover during the one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher course, this teamed with the areas which Janet had to cover lead to a full and action packed day. However they all worked very hard and brilliantly as a team and finished the day all achieving a pass with merit for the course. Attending the course we had Janet Beckett and Kay Holman both from Ivy House School in Derby, they were joined by Alison Woodhouse from the neighbourhood directorate within the council and Lucy Daullah from Steps.

Falkirk Council

This weeks Handling People with Special Needs Education course of the week took place at the new Carrongrange School in Grangemouth, Falkirk from the 13th – 17th November 2017.  It was a great week and all three of the participants worked really well together as a group, supporting and encouraging each other, the trainer commented on how she enjoyed her week with a very friendly group and that it was lovely to see them grow in confidence as the week went on.

Jan spent the day at Belong Morris Feinmann in Didsbury on the 14th November to deliver a one day Load Management Theory & Client Handling Techniques refresher workshop to two Key Trainers who work within Belong, Michelle Jones and Ann Marie Porter. Jan said it was a great day with many areas covered including techniques into and out of bed, turning clients and hoist techniques, along with problem solving and new equipment.

Northern Ireland Refresher Course

On the 13th November we held a one day Handling People with Special Needs Education refresher course at Mitchell House School in Belfast. Attending the course we had Claire Gallagher from the host school, she was joined by Brian Sammon from Willowbridge School, Clare Donaghy from Arvalee School and Morag Swift from Clifton Special School.  It was a busy day with lots covered, the main focus being stripping back the training and re-constructing it with new ideas and information on delivery, they then also covered policies and assessment ideas.

North Lincolnshire Council Masterclass

This weeks course of the week was held at St Hugh’s School in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire from the 6th till the 10th November 2017. It was a busy course with eight participants attending but all eight ended the week achieving a pass for the course with four of them passing with Merit, well done.

Attending the course we had Sarah Hirst, Rebecca Collinson-Graham, Cyndi Richards, Wendy Moreline, Stuart Pattison, Maria Heath, Jo Haynes and Elizabeth Hood.

Handling People with Special Needs Education Masterclass Course

Janet Hunt spent the week from the 30th October till the 3rd November at Springwood Heath Primary School in Liverpool. She was there to train three new Key Trainers on the Handling People with Special Needs Education Masterclass course. Despite there only been three participants taking part in the course it was a very busy week with lots of group interaction and question and answer session, Janet said “I thoroughly enjoyed training this group, they were like sponges, absorbing all the information“.
